To maintain our high levels of health and safety, we have carried out risk assessments of all our procedures and provided our staff with training to always ensure safe work practices. Additional safety measures have been implemented here on our yard and in our offices. We have also implemented procedures for staff when visiting customer sites to minimise physical interaction.

As we move forward, we are committed to managing the issues presented by the virus. We will continue to monitor official guidelines and ensure controls are in place to ensure that we continue to operate our business safely.

An Atlas 350 MH Material Handler, which has recently arrived in our yard is a great addition to our existing equipment, as it has been specially developed to give great optimised handling. Designed and manufactured in Germany, it is equipped with a powerful engine and has a high performance scrap grab handler. We chose it because it’s one of the best scrap handlers on the market and we are very pleased with its performance. It makes quick work out of handling the most heavy and awkward types of scrap metal here at our yard.

At Drapers, our skip loader vehicles are also a very important part of our business. We have recently expanded our extensive fleet by adding another two skip loaders. These advanced newcomers are rugged and durable and we will certainly be putting them through their paces. Already they are making light work of loading, unloading and reloading our skips. This makes it much more cost effective for us to collect and move our customer’s scrap metal.

At Drapers, we are continually looking at ways of improving what we do. Our investments in our site are not just limited to improving our yard. We are also upgrading our IT system and we aim to evolve it as our business grows.

Our focus is to provide the very best scrap metal services and our continued investment at Drapers is to ensure that we are always evolving our business, to make sure that we provide our customers with the highest level of service.

Restored by the Draper family, this popular engine is very close to our hearts here at the Drapers Yard in Raven Street, as we saved it from being scrapped over 40 years ago. This historic steam engine survived to the last month of steam in 1968 on British Railways. Following its restoration, the very popular steam engine has since been actively working, making lots of journeys out onto the Great Central Railway, as well as the main networks.

In its full LMS livery, the Alderman Albert Draper will soon be embarking on a new chapter, making its way up and down the tracks in all its splendour and steaming proudly into 2019 and beyond.
